On Starter, 1krNote's AI assistant runs on your own Google Gemini API key. Google bills you directly (it has a free tier), and Starter is free while it runs on your key, until we change it.
1. Get a Gemini API key
- Go to Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com) and sign in with your Google account.
- Choose Get API key → Create API key, and copy it.
2. Add it to your 1kr account
- Sign in at 1kr.uk and open AI key.
- Under Provider, choose Google Gemini, paste the key and save.
- We check with Google that the key works (no message is sent and nothing is charged). If your 1krNote is on the free plan, Starter now becomes free for you.
3. Use it in the app
Sign in to 1krNote with the same 1kr account (Settings → Account), then open AI Chat. Your plan shows as STARTER (free).
Messages you may see:
- "Your plan uses your own Gemini key. Add it in your 1kr account.": no Gemini key is saved in your account yet, or the saved key is from another provider. 1krNote's AI runs on Gemini only.
- "Google didn't accept your Gemini key. Check it in your 1kr account.": Google refused the key: it may have been deleted, restricted, or have reached its limit. Check it in Google AI Studio, or create a new key and save it again on the website.
The same key also works for 1krBlocker's Deep check, and one Starter covers both apps.
