On Starter, the AI features run on your own API key from Google Gemini or OpenAI. You pay your provider directly (Google's Gemini API has a free tier), and Starter itself is free while it runs on your key.
Add it:
- Sign in at 1kr.uk and open AI key.
- Choose the Provider: Google Gemini or OpenAI.
- Paste the key and save. We ask the provider whether the key works: that's a model list, so no message is sent and nothing is charged.
Which provider:
- Google Gemini works in both apps (1krNote's AI runs on Gemini only). Get a key at Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com → Get API key).
- OpenAI works for 1krBlocker's Deep check. Get a key at platform.openai.com → API keys.
You don't choose a model: each provider has one fixed setup, its cheapest that passed our tests.
Your key is safe with us: it's stored encrypted, used only for your own checks, and shown only by its last four characters. You have one key per account; saving a new one replaces the old one. Delete my key removes it.
If saving fails:
- "That doesn't look like an API key.": copy the whole key again, with no spaces.
- "Your provider didn't accept this key. Check that you copied all of it and that it's active."
- "This key can't use the model we run your checks on (Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite for Gemini, GPT-6 Luna for OpenAI). Turn the model on for your key in your provider's console, or use another key."
- "Confirm your e-mail first (see the message we sent)."
Free API tiers may let the provider use what you send to improve its products. If that matters to you, use a paid key.
