1krBlocker can only protect you while it is your default SMS app. Android lets only that app see a message before it reaches you, so 1krBlocker then sends, receives and stores all your texts.
To turn it on:
- Open 1krBlocker. If it isn't your SMS app yet, you'll see Make 1krBlocker your SMS app.
- Tap Set as default SMS app (or Turn on protection during setup).
- Android asks which app should be your SMS app: choose 1krBlocker.
- Allow notifications and, if you like, contacts when asked. Contacts are only read on the phone, to show names and to trust people you know a little more.
When it's done, the app says Protection is on. New messages are checked on this phone before you see them.
Things to know before you switch:
- Chat features (RCS) turn off while 1krBlocker is your SMS app: no typing indicators, read receipts or high-quality photos from chat. See "Why chat features (RCS) turn off".
- Your existing messages stay where they are; 1krBlocker shows them. You can check them for scams in Settings → Scan my existing messages.
- Quarantined messages stay in 1krBlocker. If you later switch to another SMS app, 1krBlocker offers to move them to the phone's message store first.
If Android doesn't offer 1krBlocker as an SMS app, see "This device can't use 1krBlocker as its SMS app".
