The rule editor checks a rule before it's saved and shows a short message next to what needs fixing:
- "Give the rule a name": every rule needs a name, so you can find it later.
- "Add at least one word (200 at most)": in "Words or phrases, separated by commas", separate words with commas.
- "This pattern isn’t valid": a pattern (on the Advanced tab) uses special characters with special meanings, such as
( ) [ ] . * + ?. Check that brackets are closed. If you only want to match words, use the Simple tab instead, which needs no pattern. - "This pattern is too long (500 characters at most)"
- "Use 2-letter country codes, e.g. PL, GB": write countries as two-letter codes, for example PL, GB, NG.
- "Use times like 22:00": times use the 24-hour clock, "From (HH:mm)" and "To (HH:mm)". A range can cross midnight (22:00 to 07:00).
- "Enter a valid range": "at least" must not be higher than "at most".
- "Add at least one condition here": a group of conditions can't be empty; add one or remove the group.
- "These actions contradict each other": for example blocking the sender and trusting them at the same time.
- "Check this condition": open the condition and look at each field.
Use Test this rule at the bottom of the editor to try the rule on a pasted or received message before saving it.
"That file doesn’t contain valid rules" appears when importing a file that wasn't made with Export rules…, or was changed afterwards.
